Scribble Picnic - Letters/Mail

I'm running late again for Scribble Picnic — sorry, guys.

This week's theme is LETTERS/MAIL and I decided to have a bit of fun using the illustration theme I did for last week - Little Tommy was going on his first Bird Watcher's outing.  See below.

I thought I'd illustrate Tommy getting all excited about receiving his official Bird Watcher's Membership card in the mail.

My rough pencil sketch

Yet to be coloured but this is the pen sketch

For next week's theme, Michael has chosen - BIRD.
I wonder if Tommy will make another appearance?

Why not come along and join in on the fun. To find out how, click HERE.

  1. So glad you made it Serena - I was missing you!
This is so cute - Tommy is all set now, but make sure he takes his camera when bird watching - perhaps he will photograph a beautiful bird for next week's theme! You do have some colorful ones 'down under' - I loved the parrots especially.
Hope your week is a good one.

  2. I like this series you're creating. Tommy is so cute. Getting mail is still exciting to me as long as it's not bills!

  4. This is becoming a sweet children's book on bird watching. How smart to include the theme for letter mail in your ongoing story. Very cute little guy. He looks very smart too.

  8. The whole conceptof your drawing is so funny to me. I love it. Love that he is excited to receive his official Bird Watcher's Membership and well drawn too. thank you so much, Serena.

BTw, I really enjoyed reading your comments to Janis and Wanda on your own parents love letters and never realised that they were in Malaya too. I wonder if perhaps my mother or her first husband, Eric, knew them? Certainly the Anglo community there was very tight knit. Waht years were they there? My mother was there three different decades at various times so likely might have been there the same time, if not with Eric, then with my father, as well as of course when younger. She lost almost all her childhood friends when going back to Malaya after the War and finding out many had died on the long marches or been imprisoned and died then at the hands of the Japanese back then. Even her dollies were all bayoneted by them, oddly enough.

  9. Serena,
I love Tommy. And such joy on his face when he received the badge. Our grandkids went to DisneyLand with us this winter. They received badges for following a wilderness adventure. They were very excited. Great picture.
    Blessings

  10. I was even later to the Picnic than you. So glad that you and "Tommy" made it, and that he's an official birdwatcher now! Yes, sounds like the next theme is just right for continuing his adventure.
